The Andhra Pradesh government announced that a lottery will be held on September 30 to allocate premises of liquor shops whose licences have not been renewed.
The state government of Andhra Pradesh said a draw of lots will be conducted on September 30 to allocate premises of liquor outlets whose licences have lapsed without renewal. The decision was disclosed in a press release issued by the department of excise.
The lottery is intended to replace the current ad‑hoc method of assigning shop spaces, which officials said had led to disputes and delays. By using a random selection process, the government aims to ensure transparency and fairness for all applicants.
The draw will be held at the Excise Department’s headquarters in Vijayawada, and the list of eligible shops will be published on the department’s website prior to the event. Winners will be notified immediately, and the licences are expected to be re‑issued following standard compliance checks.
