The Andhra Pradesh government has postponed elections for 100 urban local bodies, citing prevailing uncertainties.
The state government of Andhra Pradesh announced that the scheduled elections for a hundred urban local bodies have been put on hold. The decision was communicated by the State Election Commission, which cited a climate of uncertainty that could affect the fairness and smooth conduct of the polls.
Officials said the postponement will allow authorities to address the issues creating the uncertainty before rescheduling the vote. No new date has been fixed yet, and the commission will issue further notices once conditions are deemed suitable.
Stakeholders, including municipal officials and political parties, have been asked to await further instructions. The delay is expected to impact local governance timelines, as elected representatives will not assume office until the elections are eventually held.
