The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has asked state agencies to take swift action to mitigate drought‑like conditions across several districts.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy announced on Monday that the state is facing drought‑like conditions in several districts and that immediate steps are required to avert a severe water shortage. He highlighted that prolonged low rainfall has reduced groundwater levels and stressed the urgency of coordinated action.

The CM directed the Water Resources Department, Agriculture Ministry and local authorities to conduct a rapid assessment of water availability, accelerate pending irrigation projects, and mobilise relief measures for affected farmers. He also instructed officials to prioritize the repair of existing canals and promote the use of micro‑irrigation techniques.

Reddy urged farmers to adopt water‑saving practices such as drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting, and assured that the state would seek additional financial assistance from the central government to fund drought mitigation schemes. A high‑level meeting with district collectors is scheduled for later this week to monitor progress and allocate resources.

The announcement comes as the monsoon season shows signs of delay, prompting concerns among agricultural communities about crop yields and livelihoods.
