AMMK leader S. Dhinakaran has condemned the Tamil Nadu government's decision to make school headmasters shoulder the costs of expanding the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme, urging authorities to abandon the move.
S. Dhinakaran, a prominent leader of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), has publicly criticized the Tamil Nadu government's latest directive that would require headmasters of government and government‑aided schools to finance the expansion of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Breakfast Scheme.
The breakfast scheme, which has been a flagship initiative to improve child nutrition and school attendance, is slated for an expansion on September 17. The new directive, however, would shift the financial burden from the state to individual school heads, a move that many educators and parents have opposed.
In a statement released earlier today, Dhinakaran called the policy an “undeclared load shedding” that unfairly penalizes school administrators. He argued that the scheme’s success depends on state support, not on the pockets of school heads.
Dhinakaran urged the government to rescind the directive and reaffirm its commitment to the breakfast programme, warning that failure to do so could undermine the scheme’s objectives and erode public trust in state initiatives.
