Home Minister Amit Shah said the entire lab‑grown diamond ecosystem, from manufacturing to branding, should be owned and managed by Indians.

Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking to NDTV Profit, highlighted the strategic importance of the lab‑grown diamond sector for India. He asserted that every stage of the value chain – from the machines that create synthetic stones to the brands that market them – ought to be under Indian ownership.

Shah emphasized that domestic control could boost export potential, generate skilled jobs and reduce reliance on foreign technology. By keeping the ecosystem within the country, he argued, India can capture higher margins and strengthen its position in the global diamond market.

The minister called on policymakers, industry leaders and investors to collaborate on creating a supportive regulatory framework. He urged swift action to ensure that the emerging lab‑grown diamond industry becomes a flagship example of Indian manufacturing and branding capability.
