The central government minister Amit Shah has promised comprehensive support after Bihar announced a flood alert covering nine districts in its northern region.

The state government of Bihar has issued a flood alert for nine districts in its northern belt, citing rising water levels in major rivers and an increased risk of inundation. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar warned that heavy rains could exacerbate the situation, urging residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with relief agencies.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at a press briefing in New Delhi, assured that the central government would extend all necessary assistance to the affected areas. He said that additional funds, rescue teams, and relief materials would be mobilised promptly to support the state's disaster response.

State officials have already begun pre‑emptive measures, including the relocation of vulnerable families, reinforcement of embankments, and deployment of police and disaster response teams. The central and state governments are coordinating to ensure that relief reaches remote villages without delay.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid non‑essential travel, stay away from riverbanks, and follow instructions from local officials. Continuous monitoring of river flows will be undertaken, and updates will be provided through official channels.

The flood alert comes as the monsoon season intensifies across the country, prompting several states to heighten their disaster preparedness plans.
