Home Minister Amit Shah commended Assam's recent anti‑drug operation, noting that 945 people were arrested and goods worth about Rs 182 crore were seized.
New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the state of Assam for its aggressive anti‑drug campaign, highlighting the scale of the recent operation. According to official figures, the crackdown resulted in 945 arrests of individuals linked to narcotics trafficking. In addition, law‑enforcement agencies confiscated drugs, precursor chemicals and cash assets valued at roughly Rs 182 crore.
The minister said the results demonstrated the effectiveness of coordinated action between the central Ministry of Home Affairs and Assam's police forces. He urged other states to replicate the model, emphasizing that a strong deterrent is essential to curb the growing drug menace across the country.
State officials confirmed that the seized items included large quantities of heroin, methamphetamine and other illegal substances, as well as vehicles used for smuggling. The operation is part of a broader crackdown launched earlier this year to dismantle drug networks operating in the Northeast region.
