The annual Amarnath pilgrimage has been halted as authorities in Jammu and Kashmir warn of impending heavy rainfall that could endanger trekkers.
The Amarnath Yatra, a major Hindu pilgrimage that attracts thousands of devotees each year, has been suspended for the current season.
Jammu and Kashmir officials cited a forecast of heavy rainfall in the high‑altitude regions around the Amarnath shrine, warning that sudden downpours could trigger landslides and make trekking routes hazardous.
The state government has urged pilgrims to postpone their journey and has announced that all transport and accommodation arrangements for the pilgrimage will be cancelled.
Authorities have also set up a helpline for those already on the trek to seek assistance and are monitoring weather conditions closely to decide if the Yatra can resume later in the season.
