The alumni association has welcomed the government's plan to rename educational institutions after distinguished personalities, saying it will motivate students and honor legacy.
New Delhi – An alumni association representing former students of several institutions has publicly praised the government's recent announcement to rename schools and colleges after eminent personalities. The body said the move acknowledges the contributions of notable figures and is likely to inspire current students by linking education with celebrated role models.
The association highlighted that renaming can reinforce cultural pride and provide tangible reminders of the values embodied by the personalities chosen. It urged the education department to ensure transparent criteria for selection and to involve stakeholders in the renaming process.
Officials from the Ministry of Education have indicated that the initiative will be rolled out across multiple states, with a focus on institutions that have historic ties to the personalities being honored. The alumni group pledged to support the transition, including updating alumni records and assisting in awareness campaigns.
While the policy is still being fine‑tuned, the association’s endorsement underscores a broader consensus among educational stakeholders that honoring distinguished individuals through institutional names can enhance the learning environment.
