Altaf Bukhari Raises Concern Over Delay in Extending J&K Domicile Law

During a recent “Understanding with Delhi” session, Jammu and Kashmir minister Altaf Bukhari highlighted the prolonged delay in extending the state’s domicile law. He pointed out that the extension, which is intended to broaden eligibility for residency benefits, has not been finalized despite earlier assurances.

Bukhari asked senior officials from the central government to clarify the reasons behind the hold‑up and urged swift action to prevent uncertainty among the state's residents. He emphasized that timely implementation is crucial for maintaining public confidence and for the socio‑economic development of the region.

The minister’s remarks come as the state awaits a formal notification that would align the domicile provisions with the broader objectives of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act. No official response from the Delhi side was recorded at the time of reporting.
