Ajmer Municipal Election: 340 Candidates, BJP and Congress Confront Rebel Independents

After candidate withdrawals, 340 aspirants are contesting Ajmer’s 80‑ward municipal election, including 79 from BJP, 77 from Congress and 184 independents, among whom 47 and 19 are rebel Congress and BJP candidates respectively.
Ajmer’s municipal corporation election, covering all 80 wards of the city, now features a total of 340 candidates following a series of name withdrawals. The final list reflects the competitive nature of local politics in Rajasthan’s historic city.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded 79 candidates, while the Indian National Congress has nominated 77. Independent candidates number 184, a sizable bloc that includes several defectors from the two major parties.
Among the independents, 47 are identified as rebel Congress aspirants and 19 as rebel BJP aspirants, indicating internal dissent within both parties. Their presence could split traditional vote banks and influence the overall outcome of the municipal polls.
Election officials have confirmed that the candidate roster is now final, and polling is scheduled as per the state election commission’s timetable.
