Police in Ahmedabad have confiscated 5,050 bottles of codeine‑based cough syrup linked to a supply chain that reached Mizoram, as part of a crackdown on illegal drug distribution.
The Ahmedabad Police Department seized 5,050 bottles of codeine‑based cough syrup during a raid on a warehouse believed to be a hub for distributing the medicine to Mizoram.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday, following intelligence that the drugs were part of a larger supply chain involving multiple states.
Officials say the seized stock, worth an estimated ₹2.5 crore, was intended for sale on the black market.
The case is now under investigation by the Narcotics Control Bureau, which will determine whether the distributors face charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
