Agriculture Department Launches Free Weekly Weather and Pest Alerts for Farmers in Karnataka
The Karnataka agriculture department, in partnership with Israeli technology, has introduced a customized SMS service that provides farmers with free weekly forecasts of rainfall and pest outbreaks.
The Karnataka agriculture department has rolled out a new smart‑agriculture initiative that sends farmers personalized weather and pest alerts via SMS each week. The service, developed in collaboration with Israeli technology experts, aims to help farmers plan sowing, irrigation and pest‑control measures more effectively.
Farmers who register for the service will receive free text messages containing forecasts of upcoming rainfall and warnings of potential pest infestations. The alerts are tailored to the specific location of each farmer, ensuring relevance and timely information.
The department expects the weekly alerts to improve crop yields and reduce losses caused by unexpected weather events and pest attacks. By leveraging advanced forecasting tools, the program seeks to promote data‑driven farming practices across the state.
