Following the upcoming census, the government plans to identify newly emerging urban areas and estimate the country's urban population up to 2047, while reviewing the existing definition of urban settlements.
The census exercise, scheduled for completion in the near future, will provide fresh data on settlements across the country. Based on this data, authorities intend to delineate areas that have acquired urban characteristics and were not previously classified as such. Using the updated urban map, the government will project the likely size of the urban population by the year 2047. Simultaneously, a review of the current criteria used to define urban areas is underway to see if adjustments are needed to reflect changing settlement patterns.
