ABVP members stormed the MCD office in Delhi on Sunday, damaging property while calling for the municipal commissioner’s resignation and a safety audit after a recent building collapse.

Delhi – On Sunday, activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) entered the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Civic Centre and vandalised the premises. The group staged the protest to press for the resignation of the MCD commissioner and to demand an immediate safety audit of civic structures.
The demonstration came in the wake of a building collapse near the Satya Niketan area that left five people dead and triggered ongoing rescue operations. ABVP members alleged that municipal authorities had been negligent in ensuring safe accommodation for students and other residents.
According to police reports, the protesters broke windows, damaged furniture and spray‑painted slogans on the walls before being dispersed by security personnel. No arrests were reported at the time, and the MCD office remained closed for the rest of the day.
The incident underscores rising public frustration over urban safety standards in the capital, with student groups linking the tragedy to broader governance failures.
Authorities have said they will review the complaints and consider the demand for a safety audit, while the rescue work at the collapsed building continues.
