ABBA donated the royalties of their 1979 hit ‘Chiquitita’ to UNICEF, and the song has now raised over $5.

In 1979, Swedish pop group ABBA pledged all royalties from their worldwide hit “Chiquitita” to UNICEF, creating a rare partnership between a music act and a United Nations agency.

Under the agreement, every sale, broadcast and streaming revenue generated by the song was directed to the children’s fund, ensuring a continuous flow of money to UNICEF’s programmes.

After 45 years, cumulative royalties from “Chiquitita” have now exceeded $5, according to recent reports, providing ongoing financial support for UNICEF’s work around the globe.

The contribution highlights the lasting impact of charitable music initiatives and reinforces ABBA’s legacy beyond chart success.
