A mismatch between Aadhaar and VAHAN records has left thousands of vehicle owners waiting at Maharashtra's Regional Transport Offices, according to the Automotive Industry Mission Trust Council (AIMTC).
The Automotive Industry Mission Trust Council (AIMTC) has reported a systemic mismatch between citizens' Aadhaar numbers and the VAHAN vehicle registration database across Maharashtra. The discrepancy has resulted in thousands of vehicle owners being unable to complete routine services such as registration renewal, transfer of ownership, and issuance of new number plates at regional transport offices (RTOs).
Affected motorists are being asked to present additional documentation to resolve the inconsistency, causing long queues and significant delays at RTO counters in major cities including Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. The council warned that the backlog could extend for several days if the data alignment issue is not addressed promptly.
State transport authorities have acknowledged the problem and are coordinating with the UIDAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to reconcile the records. They have urged vehicle owners to verify their Aadhaar‑VAHAN linkage online before visiting an RTO to avoid further inconvenience.
