From October 1, consumers must complete Aadhaar-based biometric verification to receive subsidised LPG cylinder refills. The measure is intended to prevent diversion and ensure subsidies reach genuine beneficiaries.
The government has announced that starting October 1, Aadhaar biometric authentication will be compulsory for availing subsidised LPG refills. Consumers will have to verify their identity through fingerprint or iris scan at the point of delivery.
Officials say the step is aimed at eliminating duplicate and fraudulent connections, ensuring that the subsidy benefit is transferred only to eligible households. The authentication will be linked to the consumer's Aadhaar number already seeded with the LPG agency.
Those who fail to complete the biometric verification will not receive the subsidised price and may have to pay the market rate for the cylinder. The process is expected to be quick and will be carried out by the delivery personnel using portable biometric devices.
