A recent survey by the SC task force found that nearly one in ten Indian students have experienced suicidal thoughts, while over a third feel alienated on campus.

The SC task force released findings indicating that 9% of Indian students reported having suicidal thoughts in the past year. The same study highlighted that 34% of respondents felt like outsiders on their campuses.

The survey, which covered a diverse range of institutions across the country, points to growing mental health challenges among young adults. Experts say that feelings of isolation and lack of support can exacerbate stress and anxiety.

Educational authorities have urged universities to strengthen counseling services and create inclusive environments. The task force also recommends regular mental‑health screenings and peer‑support programs.

While the data underscores a pressing issue, it also calls for coordinated action from schools, families, and policymakers to address the underlying causes of student distress.
