Jammu & Kashmir marked the 80th anniversary of India’s independence with vibrant parades, flag hoisting and cultural performances across the region.
On 15 August 2024, the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir observed the 80th Independence Day with a series of patriotic events spread across its major towns. In Srinagar, a flag‑hoisting ceremony was followed by a march of schoolchildren and local volunteers, while a cultural program featuring folk music and dance showcased the region’s heritage.
In Jammu, a large gathering at the Municipal Stadium saw speeches by the Deputy Commissioner and local legislators, emphasizing unity and development. Similar festivities took place in Baramulla, Kargil and other districts, each highlighting regional traditions.
The celebrations culminated in a fireworks display over the Dal Lake in Srinagar, drawing crowds of families and tourists. The events were organized under the guidance of the state administration and received widespread participation from residents across the valley.
