Eight students from Pune tragically lost their lives after drowning in the waters off Diveagar beach, prompting an emergency response and raising concerns over safety during school trips.

Eight students from Pune were found drowned in the waters off Diveagar beach in Goa on Thursday, according to local authorities. The incident occurred during a school excursion that had taken the students to the coastal area for a day of learning and recreation.

Rescue teams from the Goa Coast Guard and local police were dispatched immediately after the students were reported missing. They recovered the bodies of all eight students, who were later identified by the school officials.

The school, which had organized the trip, has faced scrutiny over its safety protocols. Earlier this year, a similar incident involving a group of students on a beach in Goa led to a nationwide debate on school trip safety.

Goa’s Chief Minister’s office has ordered an investigation into the incident and has urged educational institutions to adhere strictly to safety guidelines for field trips.
