The central government has activated 73 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across Jammu & Kashmir, offering affordable generic medicines to residents.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that 73 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are now fully functional across Jammu & Kashmir. These government‑run outlets provide generic medicines at a fraction of the market price, aiming to improve access to essential drugs for the state's population.

The centres were set up under the Jan Aushadhi scheme, which was launched in 2005 to curb the high cost of medicines. Each centre stocks a range of essential drugs, including antibiotics, pain relievers and chronic disease medications.

Officials said the rollout will help reduce out‑of‑pocket expenses for patients and encourage the use of quality generic drugs. The government will continue to monitor the performance of the centres and expand the network where needed.
