70% of ₹4,900‑crore Ambala‑Shamli Expressway Completed, Travel Time to Cut to 90 Minutes

The 4,900‑crore Ambala‑Shamli Expressway linking Haryana and Uttar Pradesh is now 70% complete, promising to reduce travel time between the two states to just 90 minutes.
The four‑lane, 210‑kilometre Ambala‑Shamli Expressway, a flagship project under the National Highways Authority of India, has reached 70 per cent construction progress, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The corridor, funded at an estimated cost of ₹4,900 crore, is being built to provide a high‑speed link between Ambala in Haryana and Shamli in Uttar Pradesh.
When fully operational, the expressway is expected to cut the current travel time of around three hours to just ninety minutes, enhancing connectivity for commuters, freight operators and tourists. The reduced journey will also support economic integration of the two states, facilitating smoother movement of goods and labour.
The project, slated for completion by the end of 2027, includes modern safety features, service lanes and rest areas. Ongoing work focuses on earth‑works, bridge construction and laying of the concrete pavement on the remaining stretches.
Officials said that the accelerated pace reflects the central government's push to improve infrastructure in the northern belt, and that the remaining 30 per cent of work is on track to meet the projected timeline.
