The Rajasthan government plans to add about 60,000 megawatts of solar‑wind capacity with storage in Jaisalmer and Barmer, aiming to spur investment and create jobs in the region.
The state of Rajasthan has announced a plan to develop roughly 60,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity in its western districts, primarily Jaisalmer and Barmer. The scheme combines large‑scale solar and wind farms with battery storage facilities, creating an integrated power corridor.
Project developers will be invited to set up solar parks, wind turbines and grid‑scale storage units, alongside ancillary infrastructure such as transmission lines and land‑preparation services. The initiative is part of a broader effort to diversify the region’s energy mix and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
State officials expect the expansion to attract significant private investment, citing the region’s high solar irradiance and wind potential. The construction and operation phases are projected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, boosting local employment and supporting ancillary industries like equipment manufacturing and logistics.
By aligning with India’s national renewable‑energy targets, the western Rajasthan project aims to contribute to the country’s goal of achieving 500 gigawatts of clean power by 2030, while also enhancing energy security for nearby communities.
