On Sunday evening, police teams entered a barren field outside Kotatala village in the rural jurisdiction of Damoh district and found the lifeless body of 60‑year‑old Ramesh Yadav. The discovery was made by local residents who reported a suspicious object lying in the open.
Investigators recovered a single slipper, a piece of paint and a handheld torch from the spot where the body was lying. The items have been sent to the forensic lab for analysis to determine any link to the deceased.
Preliminary examination of the corpse revealed no obvious external injuries, prompting the police to keep both homicide and accidental death scenarios under consideration. Family members, who arrived after the report, expressed fear that the death might be foul play, as they had not heard from Yadav for several days.
