A five‑kilometre congestion on the SG Highway in Ahmedabad left many motorists heading for Diwali purchases stranded.
A traffic jam stretching about five kilometres developed on the SG Highway in Ahmedabad as the city prepared for the Diwali shopping rush. The blockage affected vehicles moving towards major retail hubs, leaving drivers and passengers stuck for an extended period.
Motorists reported that the congestion began during the early hours of the day, coinciding with the peak outbound traffic of shoppers heading to markets and malls. The jam created a bottleneck that prevented normal flow, causing frustration among commuters.
Local authorities were alerted to the situation, and traffic police were seen directing vehicles where possible. While the exact duration of the standstill was not disclosed, the incident highlighted the pressure on Ahmedabad’s road network during the festive season.
Residents expressed concern over the impact on travel plans and urged better traffic management ahead of the upcoming holidays. The SG Highway, a key arterial route, is expected to see continued high volumes as Diwali approaches.
