A 56‑km broad‑gauge rail segment between Kalaras and Birpur was inaugurated today, extending train services and enhancing connectivity for the Gwalior‑Chambal region.
The Indian Railways inaugurated a 56‑kilometre broad‑gauge stretch between Kalaras and Birpur in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by senior railway officials and local dignitaries. Three daily train services were extended to cover the new section, reducing travel time for commuters.
The new link is expected to improve connectivity between Gwalior and the Chambal region, facilitating easier movement of people and goods. Railway authorities said the project will also support regional development and pave the way for further extensions to Shyopur.
Passengers have already begun using the upgraded line, noting smoother rides and shorter journey durations. The government highlighted the importance of rail connectivity in boosting local economies and encouraging investment in the area.
