Police discovered the body of 55‑year‑old Nandkumar Singh Gond on a Shahdol railway track on Tuesday, five days after he escaped following the axe‑murder of his son.
Police officials recovered the lifeless body of 55‑year‑old Nandkumar Singh Gond on a railway track near the village of Kotia in Shahdol district on Tuesday morning. The discovery came after a five‑day manhunt that saw officers combing nearby forests for the suspect.
Investigators said Gond had allegedly killed his son with an axe before fleeing the scene. The motive for the homicide has not been disclosed, and no additional victims were reported.
During the search, Gond's nephew relayed that the father had been on the run and that his disappearance had caused concern among relatives. The nephew did not provide a direct statement about the circumstances of the death.
Authorities are treating the death as a possible suicide, given the location of the body on the railway line, but a formal autopsy will determine the exact cause. The case remains under investigation, and police have urged anyone with further information to come forward.
