A five‑year‑old boy died after being bitten by a snake at an Anganwadi centre in Patna's Badh police station area, with his family accusing the centre assistant of negligence for not taking him to a hospital promptly.

A five‑year‑old child, identified as Ishu Kumar, was attending an Anganwadi session in the village of Pothma, located in the Badh police‑station jurisdiction of Patna district, when he was bitten by a snake near the nearby Chapakhal area. The incident occurred while the child was engaged in routine learning activities at the centre.

According to the boy's relatives, they had informed the Anganwadi assistant about the bite immediately. Instead of arranging emergency transport, the staff member allegedly sent the child back home on foot, delaying medical intervention. The child was later taken to a hospital, but he succumbed to the venom.

The parents have lodged a formal complaint, accusing the Anganwadi assistant of negligence and demanding accountability. Local authorities have been notified, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the staff's response is underway.

The tragedy has raised concerns about safety protocols at early‑childhood centres in rural Bihar, prompting calls for stricter supervision and rapid emergency response mechanisms.

The case remains under police scrutiny, with officials expected to interview witnesses and examine whether standard operating procedures were breached.
