Forty‑six members of the KCP‑Taibanganba insurgent group surrendered their weapons to authorities in Manipur, signalling a step towards peace in the troubled northeastern state.

Security officials in Manipur confirmed that 46 cadres of the KCP‑Taibanganba insurgent outfit handed over their firearms to the police. The surrender was recorded at a designated checkpoint and the weapons are being catalogued for safe disposal.

KCP‑Taibanganba, a splinter faction of the Kangleipak Communist Party, has been active in the state's insurgency landscape for several years, carrying out attacks against security forces and civilians. The group’s decision to lay down arms comes amid renewed efforts by the state government to engage militant outfits in dialogue.

Analysts view the surrender as a positive development that could reduce the frequency of armed clashes in the region and pave the way for broader peace initiatives. Authorities have welcomed the move, urging other factions to consider similar steps.

The surrendered arms, including rifles and ammunition, will be handed over to the Ministry of Home Affairs for destruction, as per standard protocol for disarmament in conflict zones.
