India is set to install two nuclear power plants in Madhya Pradesh – a 1,400 MW unit at Chutka and a 2,800 MW unit at Bhimpur – totaling 4,200 MW of capacity.

The Atomic Energy Department has approved the construction of two nuclear power stations in Madhya Pradesh. The first unit, located at Chutka in Mandla district, will have a generation capacity of 1,400 megawatts. The second unit, at Bhimpur near Shivpuri, is slated for 2,800 megawatts, bringing the combined output to 4,200 megawatts.

Once operational, the twin facilities will transform the region into one of the country’s largest nuclear power hubs, supporting the national grid and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The projects are part of India’s broader strategy to expand clean energy sources and meet growing electricity demand.

Details on construction timelines, financing and the involvement of private partners have not been disclosed, but the announcement underscores the government’s commitment to scaling up nuclear capacity as a reliable, low‑carbon energy option.

Local authorities have welcomed the development, citing potential economic benefits such as job creation and infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding districts. Environmental clearances and safety protocols will be overseen by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) in accordance with national regulations.

The initiative aligns with the country’s target to increase nuclear power’s share in the overall energy mix, aiming for a more diversified and sustainable power portfolio.
