Thirty-two female students from Gohparu left Shahdol early Saturday, walking to the collector’s office to demand better hostel conditions, marking the fifth such protest in two months.

Students from the government-run hostels in Shahdol district have intensified their protest against deteriorating living conditions. On Saturday at around 3 a.m., a group of thirty-two female students from Gohparu set out on foot to the collector’s office, demanding immediate remedial action.

The march is the fifth incident in the past two months where hostel residents have taken to the streets, highlighting issues such as inadequate sanitation, insufficient water supply, and unsafe infrastructure. The students have repeatedly sought dialogue with district officials, but their grievances remain largely unaddressed.

Local authorities confirmed that the collector’s office received the students and pledged to review the complaints. However, no concrete timeline for repairs or upgrades has been announced, prompting the students to continue their direct appeal.

The protest underscores growing discontent among rural and semi‑urban students in Madhya Pradesh, who rely on government hostels for education. Stakeholders are urging the state government to allocate urgent funds for hostel renovation to prevent further disruptions.

The situation remains under observation, with police monitoring the gathering to ensure it remains peaceful while officials assess the demands.
