The Jammu and Kashmir government reported that construction of 30 out of the planned 287 block public health units has been finished, marking progress in the state's healthcare infrastructure.
The state government of Jammu and Kashmir announced that 30 block public health units have been completed, bringing the total of operational facilities to 30 out of an originally planned 287. The update was released through an official statement that highlighted the milestone as part of the broader effort to strengthen primary health services across the region.
These units are intended to serve as first‑point‑of‑contact health centres for rural and semi‑urban populations, providing basic outpatient care, maternal and child health services, and preventive health programmes. Completion of the initial batch is expected to reduce travel distances for patients and ease the load on higher‑level hospitals.
The government indicated that construction of the remaining 257 units will continue under the same funding envelope, with a target to finish the entire network within the next few years. Ongoing monitoring will be carried out by the state health department to ensure that the facilities meet prescribed standards before they become fully operational.
