28.42 lakh people in Odisha cleared for pucca houses under PMAY‑G

The state government of Odisha has identified 28.42 lakh eligible families for permanent pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Gramin (PMAY‑G) scheme.
Odisha’s housing department announced that 28.42 lakh rural households have met the eligibility criteria for receiving pucca (permanent) houses under the central Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Gramin (PMAY‑G) programme. The assessment, based on income, land ownership and existing shelter conditions, was completed in the first quarter of the financial year.
The central government’s PMAY‑G scheme aims to provide safe, durable housing to the rural poor by 2025, with each beneficiary slated to receive a house of at least 30 square metres. State officials said the newly identified beneficiaries will now move to the construction phase, which will be funded through a mix of central and state allocations.
The announcement is expected to boost rural development in Odisha, where housing deficits remain high. Authorities have urged eligible families to register with local Gram Panchayats to facilitate timely allocation of plots and construction approvals.
Implementation will be monitored by the Ministry of Rural Development in coordination with Odisha’s Department of Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation, ensuring that the houses meet prescribed quality standards before handover.
