Since the launch of the cheetah reintroduction program in Kuno, 28 individuals have died, including seven this year.
Since the cheetah reintroduction initiative was started in Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh, a total of 28 cheetahs have died. The tally includes 11 adults and 17 cubs, reflecting a high mortality rate for the fledgling population.
The deaths this year alone amount to seven individuals, underscoring ongoing challenges for the conservation effort. Officials have recorded the loss of both mature animals and young ones, with an eight‑month‑old cub among the recent fatalities.
State wildlife authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have not released detailed causes for the deaths. The data will inform future management strategies aimed at improving survival rates for the reintroduced cheetahs.
