Ujjain will illuminate the Avanti area with 2.5 million diyas on September 17, covering seven major sectors and 250 sub‑sectors.
On September 17, the city of Ujjain, often referred to as the Mahakaleshwar metropolis, will host a massive lighting event at the Avanti precinct. A total of 2.5 million oil lamps will be placed to create a spectacular display that aims to set a new record for the region.
The project has been divided into seven principal sectors—Kedareswar Ghat, Datt Akhada, Ramghat, Narsingh Ghat, Bhookhi Mata, Gaughata and Mahakal Lok—and further broken down into 250 sub‑sectors. Approximately 11,000 blocks, each measuring 16 by 16 feet, are being constructed at the ghats, with every block slated to hold 225 diyas.
Organisers say the coordinated effort reflects both cultural devotion and logistical precision, turning the historic ghats into a sea of light. The event is expected to attract large crowds and reinforce Ujjain’s reputation as a major pilgrimage and cultural hub during the festive season.
