The Election Commission has deleted 23 lakh names from draft voter lists in five states and union territories, with Sikkim recording the highest proportion of deletions.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that 23 lakh voters have been removed from the draft electoral rolls in a Phase‑3 audit covering five states and union territories.
The deletions, which include duplicate entries, errors and ineligible names, are part of the Commission’s effort to clean the rolls before the final list is issued for the upcoming elections.
Sikkim recorded the highest proportion of deletions among the regions, although the exact number of names removed from the state’s draft list was not disclosed.
The updated rolls will be circulated to the concerned election authorities, and voters who find their names missing are advised to file a complaint with the local electoral office.
