Two merchant ships collided near Gujarat’s shoreline, prompting a Coast Guard rescue that saved 21 people.

A collision between two merchant vessels was reported early on Thursday in the waters off Gujarat's western coast. The impact caused both ships to take on water, creating an immediate danger for the crew on board.

The Indian Coast Guard swiftly launched a rescue operation, deploying patrol boats and a helicopter to the scene. Rescue teams managed to evacuate 21 crew members from the stricken vessels and bring them safely to shore.

According to officials, no fatalities were recorded, and the remaining crew members are being accounted for. The Coast Guard continues to monitor the situation while salvage teams assess damage to the vessels.

Local authorities have opened an investigation to determine the cause of the collision, emphasizing adherence to maritime safety protocols in the busy Gulf of Kutch region.
