2026 Dussehra School Holidays: Official Government Confirmation on Extension

The Government of India, through a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, announced on Monday that the school vacation period for Dussehra in 2026 will be lengthened. The notification, which is now posted on the official portal, applies to all central and state‑run schools across the country.\n\nPreviously, the Dussehra break was scheduled from October 2 to October 5, 2026. The new schedule adds two additional days, extending the holiday to October 7, thereby giving students a total of six days off.\n\nEducation officials said the extension is intended to accommodate the longer festive period observed in many regions and to provide teachers with extra time for lesson planning. State education boards have been instructed to adjust their academic calendars accordingly, without affecting the timing of board examinations.\n\nParents are advised to check with their respective schools for any specific adjustments to extracurricular activities or transportation services during the extended break.
