A group of 178 guest lecturers in Tripura has appealed to the state government for a one‑time recruitment scheme to fill vacant teaching posts.

Tripura’s education department is facing a pronounced shortage of regular teachers, prompting 178 guest lecturers to formally request a special, one‑time recruitment drive. The lecturers, who are currently engaged on contractual terms, argue that the existing hiring delays are compromising the quality of instruction in schools across the state. They have submitted a petition to the state’s higher education authority, seeking immediate clearance for a bulk appointment of permanent teachers.

In their appeal, the guest lecturers highlighted that many schools are operating with understaffed classrooms, forcing them to manage larger student groups and extended teaching hours. They contend that a one‑off recruitment mechanism would allow the government to quickly fill the most critical vacancies, stabilising the teaching workforce and improving learning outcomes.

The state government has not yet issued a response, but officials indicated that the matter will be reviewed in the upcoming session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. Education experts suggest that a swift decision could set a precedent for other northeastern states grappling with similar staffing challenges.
