The state’s forest authorities have announced an afforestation initiative targeting 1,618 acres of the Konaseema coastal belt, locally referred to as ‘sea land’. The project seeks to plant native trees and mangroves across the expanse, which has been vulnerable to erosion and salinity.
Officials say the effort will increase green cover, improve soil stability and provide habitat for local wildlife. The chosen area spans the low‑lying tracts that lie between the Godavari delta and the Bay of Bengal, making it a critical zone for ecological balance.
