Atul Ahirwar, a 16‑year‑old resident of Silakhra in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh, lost his life when he fell into a water‑filled mine while assisting with the Ganesh immersion ritual. The incident occurred during the traditional ceremony that draws large crowds from nearby villages.
Local villagers allege that no police personnel were present to secure the area, despite the event’s size. According to their statements, police forces reached the site only after a two‑hour delay, by which time the boy had already drowned.
An FIR has been lodged, and the case is under investigation by the Sehore police. Authorities have said they are probing the circumstances surrounding the lack of security and the cause of the accident, while offering condolences to the bereaved family.
