Archaeologists of the Archaeological Survey of India uncovered a 1,500‑year‑old ornamental statue of a female figure during excavations at Nacana village in Panna district, Madhya Pradesh.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) announced that a team of archaeologists has discovered a rare statue dating back roughly 1,500 years at Nacana, a historic village in Panna district, Madhya Pradesh. The figure, carved in stone, portrays a woman adorned with intricate jewellery and decorative motifs, suggesting a high level of artistic skill for the period. Experts believe the sculpture belongs to the early medieval era, around the 5th‑6th century CE, and could provide new insights into the region's cultural and religious practices. The find was made during a systematic excavation aimed at mapping ancient settlement patterns in central India. ASI officials said the artifact will be conserved and later displayed in a museum for public viewing.
