A 14‑year‑old boy was mauled by a bear while trekking in a forest area of Jammu and Kashmir, sustaining injuries that required medical attention.

Local sources reported that a teenage boy, aged 14, was attacked by a bear while moving through a forested region of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident occurred during a routine trek, and the animal's sudden aggression left the youngster with multiple injuries.

Emergency responders reached the site shortly after the attack and administered first aid before transporting the boy to the nearest hospital. Medical officials said his condition is stable, though he remains under observation for possible complications.

Forest department officials highlighted that bear sightings have risen in the area during the past months, urging residents and visitors to exercise heightened caution. They reiterated existing guidelines, such as traveling in groups, avoiding solitary excursions at dawn or dusk, and promptly reporting any wildlife encounters to authorities.

The department also mentioned that a team of wildlife experts is monitoring the bear population to mitigate future human‑wildlife conflicts, while stressing the importance of preserving natural habitats alongside community safety.
