The government has approved a 12% quota for retired Agniveers in the Assam Police and related security agencies, aiming to integrate former soldiers into civilian law‑enforcement roles.

New Delhi has cleared a 12% reservation for retired Agniveers in the Assam Police and its allied security forces. The decision, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, seeks to provide former three‑year Agnipath recruits with a pathway into civilian policing after their military tenure ends.

Under the scheme, Agniveers who complete their service will be eligible to apply for positions in the state police, paramilitary units and other law‑enforcement bodies in Assam. The quota will be applied during the next recruitment cycle, with the Assam Police Directorate tasked with framing the necessary selection criteria.

Officials said the move aims to harness the discipline and training of ex‑army personnel while addressing manpower needs in the state's police force. Implementation details, including the exact number of vacancies and application timelines, will be released by the Assam Police shortly.

The policy reflects a broader effort by the central government to integrate Agnipath alumni into public‑sector roles across the country, complementing similar initiatives in other states.
