11 Drown as Karama-Dharma Idol Immersion Turns Tragic in Patna’s Ganga

During the Karama-Dharma idol immersion in Patna’s flood‑prone zone, floodwaters swept away 11 participants, rescuers saved four, one was confirmed dead and six remain missing.
A sudden rise in water level of the Ganga River in Patna district’s flood sub‑division turned a religious immersion ceremony into a disaster. While devotees were lowering the Karama‑Dharma idol at the banks of the river, the current surged, pulling participants into the water.
Rescue teams from the Athmalgola and Bakhtiyarpur police stations rushed to the scene. They managed to pull four people to safety, but one victim was found dead on the riverbank. Six others are still unaccounted for and are being searched for by local authorities.
District officials have appealed for calm and urged the public to avoid immersion activities in flood‑affected stretches of the Ganga until water levels recede. The incident underscores the heightened risk posed by seasonal flooding in the region.
