The university has expelled a student after allegations that he defaced a poster of Swami Vivekananda, while also banning an alumnus from campus. Student Federation of India condemned the move, whereas ABVP praised the authorities.

The Presidency University administration announced the expulsion of a student following accusations that he had defaced a poster of Swami Vivekananda displayed on campus. The incident reportedly involved deliberate markings that were deemed disrespectful to the revered figure. In a related decision, the university also barred an alumnus from entering its premises.

The Student Federation of India (SFI) released a statement condemning the expulsion, arguing that the student should have been given a chance for a fair hearing. Conversely, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) welcomed the university’s action, calling it a necessary step to maintain discipline and respect for national icons.

University officials said the decision was taken after a review of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. They emphasized that the institution upholds strict guidelines against vandalism and disrespectful acts on campus. The expelled student has not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations.
