India is preparing to lift the suspension on methanol shipments to Bangladesh, signaling a revival of bilateral trade in the chemical sector.
New Delhi has indicated that the ban on methanol exports to Bangladesh will be lifted in the coming weeks, allowing Indian producers to resume shipments that were halted earlier this year. The move follows diplomatic talks between the two governments and aligns with India’s broader strategy to support regional chemical supply chains.
The suspension, imposed amid concerns over pricing volatility and regulatory compliance, affected several Indian petrochemical firms that rely on the Bangladeshi market for a steady demand base. Analysts note that methanol, a key feedstock for fertilizers and industrial chemicals, is crucial for Bangladesh’s growing agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
