The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall expected over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the coming days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released a forecast on Monday predicting heavy rainfall over the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, as well as the Union Territory of Puducherry, for the next 48 hours.

According to the bulletin, the monsoon trough is expected to bring sustained rainfall of 50–100 mm in Kerala, 30–70 mm in Tamil Nadu, and 20–60 mm in Puducherry. The forecast also warns of potential flooding in low‑lying districts and advises residents to stay alert.

State disaster management authorities have been notified and are preparing emergency response plans. The IMD recommends that people avoid traveling on roads prone to waterlogging and keep emergency kits ready.

The forecast is part of the regular monsoon monitoring carried out by the IMD, which issues updates every 12 hours during the peak rainy season.
