Meteorological agencies say Cyclone Murasu has become active in the Bay of Bengal, prompting a red alert for Andhra Pradesh's coastal districts.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has classified Cyclone Murasu as a severe system over the Bay of Bengal, noting a rapid increase in its intensity. The cyclone is generating strong winds and heavy rainfall as it moves westward.

In response, the IMD upgraded the warning level to red for the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Authorities in the state have been instructed to activate emergency protocols, including evacuation of vulnerable communities, securing of infrastructure, and readiness of rescue teams.

Officials warn that the storm surge and wind gusts could cause significant damage to coastal settlements, fishing harbors and power lines. Residents are urged to stay indoors, keep emergency kits handy, and follow directives from local disaster management officials.

While the immediate threat is confined to Andhra Pradesh’s shoreline, the cyclone’s trajectory suggests it could later affect neighboring coastal regions. Continuous monitoring will be maintained, and further advisories will be issued as the system evolves.
